A chilly but dry morning saw 107 participants and 15 volunteers assemble in Hasenheide for our latest parkrun. A fantastic 9 people were doing their first ever parkrun anywhere in the world, which is always great to see!
Talking of first parkruns, Ivo first joined us on 5th May 2018 for his first ever parkrun. Coincidentally, I was Run Director that day too. Little did he (or we) know then how much of the community at Hasenheide he would become. Not only has he volunteered with us many times, fulfilling 11 different volunteering roles, but he's also now a key member of the core/RD team at the event. It was great to see him reach his 50th parkrun milestone today - well done Ivo! Weiter so!
I asked him to sum up parkrun for us, to which he replied "A welcoming, diverse and kindred running community." Despite everything that has changed around us since Ivo did his first parkrun 3½ years ago, I think that summary rings as true now as it did then.
So, what else happened? We had Shveta visit us from our 'sister' parkrun, Burgess in the UK, where Grit (thankfully for us all) found parkrun! We also had a great group of Scottish visitors who seemed to thoroughly enjoy their visit to Hasenheide (especially our famous hill, I'm sure).
A huge thank you as always needs to go to our fantastic team of volunteers, without whom today's event couldn't take place. They stood in the cold (shaking, dancing and running on the spot!) to make it happen - so thanks guys!!
